I wish we had one of these southern hospitality driven diners up in St Louis. The people who work here are sweet to you right off. We had both dinner and breakfast here when we went crystal hunting for a couple of days nearby. The dinner was delicious and good. I had chicken fried steak and it was crunchy outside and savory goodness inside. I got Mac and cheese (actually yummy shells and cheese) and sweet potato with brown sugar and butter. It was very affordable. Burgers were good too. Breakfast, holy moley! Big helpings for a great price. Want to carb out, the pancakes are huge. Protein conscious? Omelets are big and tasty. To summarize: good food, great prices, friendly service. Mm mm good!

Baseball cards under the tabletops. 1950's Wrigley Field photo in the men's room. 65 years later and they are still in the toilet. Eerie coincidence I sat down by Darryl Kyle's card. I grew up in Houston and loved watching him pitch. Soup of the day- sausage cabbage. I have never had a soup like this before so I don't know how it compares but it was awesome. $2.50 Gooey grilled cheese with three cheeses. I skipped the tomato and added bacon. Good grilled cheese, but I can make the same at home. $6.99 Not many options in this town, so Home Plate is a hit.

Best chicken fried chicken I've ever had! Decent prices and friendly staff! The white gravy is the BOMB!

A good place to rest yourself and enjoy a meal. Pretty basic options but the people are so friendly that you think your sister is waiting on you. I had the fried shrimp dinner and my wife had a salad. The salad dressing is homemade and they have nice fresh rolls. They have a number of specials on a daily basis with some good deserts. Is it fine dining? No, but I don't believe you will walk away hungary or feeling that you ate at a dive. I will return to have another dinner!

Great food and service! More than I could eat. Zack did an awesome job and has a great personality. He made us feel like old friends.

Came back here again and nothing really changed. Still, very good. They have expanded their floor space to include another sitting area. Always very busy.

We arrived at five minutes after 1 o'clock and had to wait for a table. That was our first indication we had made the right choice, it was packed. I ordered the lunch sirloin with onion rings and cream corn, it came with a roll. My companion ordered the fish and chips. Both were among the lunch specials on the chalk board. The steak was a nice size and came exactly as ordered. It had a good flavor and was tasty. The rings came out of a bag but were pretty good but probably could have stayed in the fryer another couple minutes. The cream corn was unlike any I've ever had. It was whole kernel corn in a sweet white cream sauce. It was very good. The roll was pretty standard fare, good but would have been better warm. My companion's fish and chips were very good. The fish was well fried in a crispy tempura type batter. It was a nice firm white fish, I'm guessing cod or haddock. The steak fries were good but came from a bag and I suspect might have had freezer burn. The main items, the steak and fish were very good indeed. I would definitely go back. Also the men's restroom was spotless.

I have a mixed review. Staff was friendly and if you like meat, like me, then it is a good value. Hypothetical example- 2 eggs, choice of bread, choice of meat, choice of non-meat side. If you do not want meat, like others I went with, they are not willing to substitute a non-meat side in the breakfast meals... so they payed for a extra side. I went with the "homerun omelet" and it was good. The sausage was a little dry was a minor complaint, but I got plenty of veggies & a bottle of hot sauce and that makes everything better. I saw Eggs Benedict on the menu and found that to be interesting. I almost went with steak-N-eggs meal that looked very good. Overall- nice place for carnivores but herbivores will pay.

Just how friendly is the waitress?

We came expecting a classic home style meal without many frills and that is what we got. We were disappointed however that the prime rib (what were we thinking?) was cooked medium to medium well instead of the medium rare as requested. Additionally, the stuffed shrimp were fried to death, the mashed potatoes were clearly instant, and the white wine by the glass was a boxed wine (we saw them pour it). Our preschool boys liked their popcorn chicken and hotdog however, so what can we complain about? Just don't expect a diamond in the rough here.

Just as Jen S and Daniel C had said in previous reviews the staff is very friendly. I'm writing this review some months after the fact but what's important is that the place left a good impression. Enough for me to write this review. If you happen to be in this part of the country then try it out.

The fish trio wasn't very good actually. The sauce was a little too buttery. My husband's steak was wonderful! They have a great menu. Will probably go back and try something different. Service was good...

Truly a great find in this little town. Very good food, very good value, very GREAT staff. And great hours for us visiting rock-hounds, it was nice to sit down to a good, hot breakfast before digging for the day.

One of the first things to hit you as you glance over the menu is the ridiculously low prices and so your next thought is the food can't be that great. But I'm glad to say the food equals the bright comforting feel of the place. Honest food served by genuine people that seem happy to be there.

Was headed to Lake Ouachita State Park for a weekend of camping. Locals up the road told me about this place. Arrived just before dinner rush, service was prompt and attentive. Good food with moderate pricing. Friday evening prime rib special, but chose another item as i was going to evening dive and didnt want to be stuffed

Awesome place with down home cooking, great desserts. We even had a singing waiter who is trying out for American Idol. I would defiantly eat there again.

The husband and I ate at The Home Plate Cafe twice during our recent stay in Hot Springs Village and were very pleased both times. The service was good and quick. The staff knew the menu and made good recommendations. The sweet tea was just sweet enough and they didn't let our glasses get even half empty! The food was all very good and fresh. I had an awesome Rueben. The desserts were delicious, especially the creme brûlée. The owner was on site working and checking to make sure all was good. We'll be back.

My family and I ate here while in town visiting my Grandparents. Nice sized portions. Very very reasonable prices compared to what we were used to paying in Chicago. I ordered the tortilla salad and a side order of the sweet potato. The waitress was super friendly! She even mentioned the recipe for the salsa dressing for my salad!
